Telemedicine/Telehealth Q & A

What Is Telehealth?

Telehealth allows patients to receive medical care through live video communication. It’s a safe, private, and HIPAA-compliant way to consult with a licensed healthcare provider using your smartphone, tablet, or computer.

Telehealth is designed for conditions that do not require an in-person physical exam or urgent procedures. It helps patients receive timely care, maintain continuity, and avoid unnecessary travel or wait times.

What Telehealth Is Good For

Telehealth visits are ideal for evaluating many common, non-emergency concerns, including:

Acute Sick Visits

  • Cough, cold, flu-like symptoms

  • Sinus infections

  • Sore throat

  • Pink eye

  • Ear pain (initial triage and guidance)

  • Mild asthma concerns

  • Seasonal allergies

  • Skin rashes and mild dermatologic concerns

  • Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)

Medication-Related Needs

  • Prescription refills (when appropriate)

  • Medication adjustments

  • Discussion of side effects

  • Birth control consultations

Minor Health Concerns

  • Headaches or migraines

  • Minor injuries (assessment and recommendation for in-person follow-up if needed)

  • Mild urinary symptoms (initial evaluation)

Chronic Condition Management

  • Blood pressure follow-up

  • Diabetes follow-up

  • Behavioral health check-ins (non-emergency)

General Medical Questions

  • Lab result reviews

  • Treatment follow-ups

  • Guidance on whether in-person care is needed

What Telehealth Should Not Be Used For

Some conditions require a hands-on physical exam, diagnostic testing, or emergency care. Telehealth is not recommended for:

  • Chest pain or difficulty breathing

  • Severe abdominal pain

  • High fever in very young children

  • Severe injuries

  • In-clinic procedures (laceration repairs, imaging, testing, IVs)

  • Workman’s comp injury assessments

  • Emergency situations

If an in-person visit is needed, our team will guide you promptly to the right level of care.
