A fever before work, a painful ear after school or a sore throat that worsens overnight can interrupt the whole family. For stable, non-emergency symptoms, urgent care can provide a timely medical evaluation without waiting for a routine primary care appointment.
The provider may ask when symptoms started, review medications and medical history, check vital signs and examine the throat, ears or lungs. Based on clinical findings, testing may be recommended. Not every patient needs antibiotics or laboratory testing.
Many respiratory infections are caused by viruses, which antibiotics do not treat. A clinician can discuss supportive care, whether testing is indicated and which warning signs should prompt reevaluation.
For some mild, stable concerns, a video visit may be an appropriate starting point. Symptoms that require a throat swab, ear examination, lung assessment or other hands-on testing need in-person care.
Severe trouble breathing, confusion, bluish lips, dehydration with inability to keep fluids down, chest pain or rapidly worsening illness require urgent assessment; call 911 for severe or life-threatening symptoms.
EZMED welcomes patients from Timonium, Lutherville, Cockeysville, Towson, Hunt Valley and nearby communities. Walk-in urgent care and scheduled visits are available subject to current hours and capacity.
