As of October 1, 2026, the Maryland Department of Health reports 55 confirmed measles cases in Maryland. The state says it is responding to an outbreak among unvaccinated individuals in Carroll, Cecil and St. Mary’s counties and that there is currently no evidence of widespread community transmission.
Even when identified outbreaks are concentrated elsewhere, travel and close contact can move measles between communities. Measles is one of the most contagious viral diseases, which is why awareness of symptoms and vaccination status remains important for families throughout Timonium and Baltimore County.
The CDC identifies two doses of MMR vaccine as the best protection against measles. Parents and adults who are uncertain about their vaccination history should discuss their records and individual circumstances with a healthcare professional.
High fever, cough, runny nose and red or watery eyes followed by a rash can be compatible with measles. If measles is possible, Maryland health officials advise calling before visiting a healthcare facility and mentioning any known exposure, travel and vaccination history.
