At EZMed Urgent Care, we frequently evaluate flu symptoms and help patients manage recovery safely.
Most people with the flu are contagious for about 5–7 days.
Typical contagious timeline:
1 day before symptoms begin
Up to 5–7 days after symptoms start
Children, older adults, and immunocompromised patients may be contagious longer
Even if you start feeling better, you may still be able to spread the virus.
Symptoms often begin abruptly and may include:
Fever and chills
Body aches
Headache
Fatigue
Sore throat
Cough
This is usually the worst phase of the flu.
Fever typically resolves
Body aches lessen
Energy slowly returns
Cough and congestion may continue
Most people begin to feel significantly better by the end of this phase.
Some symptoms may persist, including:
Dry cough
Mild fatigue
Nasal congestion
A lingering cough or tiredness is common and does not necessarily mean you are still contagious.
Fatigue can last 1–2 weeks or longer, even after other symptoms resolve. Returning to work or school too soon can prolong recovery.
Rest and hydration are essential during this phase.
Yes. Antiviral medications (such as oseltamivir) can:
Shorten symptom duration by 1–2 days
Reduce symptom severity
Lower the risk of complications
Antivirals work best when started within 48 hours of symptom onset.
You should seek medical care if:
Symptoms are severe or worsening
Fever lasts more than 3–4 days
You have difficulty breathing or chest pain
You are pregnant, over 65, or immunocompromised
A child is not improving or appears lethargic
You need flu testing or antiviral treatment
Early evaluation can shorten illness and prevent complications.
At EZMed Urgent Care, we provide:
Rapid flu testing
Antiviral prescriptions when appropriate
Symptom management guidance
Return-to-work or school notes
Care for adults and children
We help you recover safely and reduce the risk of spreading illness to others.
To support recovery:
Rest as much as possible
Drink plenty of fluids
Use fever reducers as directed
Avoid strenuous activity until fully recovered
Stay home until fever-free for at least 24 hours
